Advantages of forest kindergarten - the right clothing makes it possible
Forest kindergarten has many advantages. Spending every day outside in the forest not only boosts children's immune systems, but also their self-confidence, creativity and relationship with nature. But how does this work in the fall and winter, in wind and weather, rain, cold and mud? The answer is simple: only with the right equipment can children stay healthy and happy outdoors every day. Here is an overview.
Out in the forest, children experience the course of the seasons and the life of plants and animals at first hand. An understanding of nature and sustainability are not just preached here, but lived every day.
Forest kindergarten in fall and winter
In Germany, it rains an average of 126 - 132 days a year, especially in fall and winter. Rain and mud are not taken into consideration at the Waldkindergarten: The children still play outside every day. Most of the children even love playing in the mud. Of course, the risk of catching a cold is high. To avoid illness and hypothermia, one thing is particularly important: the right clothing and equipment.
The right equipment
Both the clothing and the equipment for the forest kindergarten must be robust and durable in order to survive even the dirtiest adventures. This means warm winter clothing including ski underwear as well as waterproof rainwear and tried and tested all-weather clothing - such as our children's leather trousers.
This has proven itself in long-term test by forest kindergarten expert Kristin Wichter: 'Admittedly, we were initially unsure whether children's leather trousers could really be "indestructible". Our children would be able to cope with it. :o) But we gave it our all - and it lives up to its promise. Our experiences in the forest kindergarten, on vacation and on adventure playgrounds have turned us into honest Lederhosen fans. Lederhosen for children are trousers that children can "live" in. They do everything day in, day out. And they last forever. Our next child is already waiting in the wings to take over the Lederhosen.
In addition to the right clothing, a forest child also needs a small rucksack to store important equipment every day. It should contain a small sleeping mat, a water bottle, a lunch box, a small towel and a change of clothes if necessary.
Our children's backpacks are just the right size for this. They are not too heavy and, like the children's leather pants, are virtually indestructible. Made from robust, sustainable genuine leather, the rucksacks can also withstand mud and rain and can be passed on from Waldkind to Waldkind, repaired free of charge and even returned for 50% of the original price to be included in our pre-owned collection.
Although a rucksack and lederhosen are two essential items, that's not all. The complete checklist for forest kindergarten clothing and equipment, compiled by Kristin, can be found here.
Is forest kindergarten the best decision for your child?
If you want your child to grow up strong, creative and independent, then a forest kindergarten is a really good choice. Whether it's the best choice depends on each individual, of course. Regardless of whether you decide for or against forest kindergarten, our lederhosen and rucksacks are of course perfect for anyone who loves playing mud monsters in the forest, digging on the beach or romping in the garden.
